What an amazing day. Until now I have felt like I’ve known that I was pregnant, like I logically understood that and that explains a lot about why I’m constantly tired, getting sick often and feeling like I can accomplish only a fraction of what I did only months ago. But not until today did I FEEL like I had a BABY inside of me. That probably sounds weird, but really that’s how I felt.
I was told that I needed to finish drinking 32 ounces of water one hour prior to the appointment. So, being the overachiever that I am, I grabbed the biggest water bottle I had (thinking it was 12 ounces) and finishing off three of them an hour before the appointment. Well, I was squirming on my chair at work – I have never had to “go” that bad before in my life. So I hurry over to the doctor’s office and called Jason frantically saying “You have to hurry, I can’t wait to go in – meet me there early”. We get there, and no one understands that I’m about two seconds away from having a very embarrassing accident. Plus, they have all heard this before, so it was like no big deal to them – bless their hearts. (After I got back to work I measured my glass; I found out that I actually had drunken 60 ounces of water, not 32 – no wonder I was going nuts.)
Anyway, Jason and I had an amazing ultrasound. We got to see the baby move! We saw the face, the arms and legs, the little body (which I thought looked kind of like Mister Peanut, without the monocle) and the beating heart! The heart rate was around 150 and it was amazing to see it flutter. The sonographer (ultrasound specialist) would tap my belly to encourage the little guy to move around, and it was cool to see him or her stretching and grooving a little. I have a feeling that our baby will take after Jason, who moves CONSTANTLY. It was a great appointment and all is well with the baby and Mom. Dad’s doing great too – he did a good job of distracting me when I thought I was going to pee my pants, holding my hand when we could see the baby, and clearing the path for my mad dash to the bathroom. What a trooper.
