Third Trimester

It’s hard to believe that we are already in our Third Trimester! Only 12 weeks to go until the big day – I cannot believe it. The second trimester was indeed the “honeymoon” trimester, no more morning sickness, looking pregnant without feeling too uncomfortable, just glowing. On the other hand, like clockwork, busting into the third trimester has brought with it the discomforts of pregnancy. Sleeping for 2-3 hour blocks of time is now considered good, I look more tired, I can tell when I have been standing too long and my feet begin to swell, and I’d say that I have three kinds of back pain – the consistent throbbing in the low pain paired with the sharp shooting pain in my mid-back and then the occasional sciatica pain.

I am persistent though, I am determined to continue to do as much as I can for as long as I can. I really enjoy my pregnancy pilates and yoga videos – they do help alleviate the back pain and I feel like I am more limber and agile having done them. Wrigley (our golden retriever) “participates” in the morning exercise by fiercely chewing on a bone and rolling around with me when I’m stretching on the floor. Sometimes we have to take a break to rub his chest. :) Now that the weather is getting nicer, I hope to walk more outside, just to keep up with a little cardio and keep my legs strong.

I am very grateful for my pregnancy (of course), these pains are just temporary, and I know that I am very fortunate that this entire experience has been very textbook. I think with Jason’s generous massages, my favorite donuts and our loving and supportive friends and family, these next 12 weeks will go by relatively quickly. I can’t wait to meet our Sophia!
